Glazed relief is a technique created by artist Ruth Jensen McGrath. It consists of painting on hardboard panels, alternating 30 to 50 layers of paint and varnish, sometimes straight from the tube to build up layers of color and texture. The finished design is topped with several layers of acrylic polyurethane varnish to give the entire work depth and interest. Most people want to run their fingers over the art, so it is framed without a mat or glass.
